Day One: Be Still
Pause the noise, breathe, and recognize that God is near.
Listen With Sheri
If you would rather listen, find a quiet place and let me walk through today’s invitation with you.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10We live in a world that rarely stops making noise.
Even when the room is quiet, our minds may be filled with unfinished tasks, unanswered questions, old conversations, future worries, and an endless list of things we believe we should be doing.
Sometimes we carry so much noise within us that we can no longer hear the gentle reassurance of God.
When that happens, our natural response is often to try harder. We look for something else to do, another problem to solve, or one more way to regain control. Yet God’s invitation in Psalm 46 is surprisingly different:
Be still.
He does not say, “Figure everything out.” He does not say, “Fix yourself before you come to Me.” He does not say, “Work harder until you feel worthy of My presence.” He simply invites us to be still and remember who He is.
What noise, worry, or unanswered question did you bring with you today?
You do not have to solve it right now. Simply name it, take a breath, and remember: God is here.
Stillness Is Trust
Being still does not mean pretending our problems aren’t real. It doesn’t mean we stop caring or become passive about our lives. It means we loosen our grip long enough to acknowledge that God is present, God is working, and God is still God—even when we do not understand what He is doing.
You may not feel peaceful the moment you become quiet. At first, the silence might make you more aware of everything you have been carrying. That is all right. You don’t have to force yourself to feel anything. Just be present.
Take a slow breath and remember: the God who created you is with you right now. You did not have to earn His attention. You did not have to find the perfect words. You only had to stop long enough to notice that He was already near.
Today isn’t about doing more. It’s about allowing yourself to rest in the presence of the One who has been holding you all along.
Reflection
- What has been creating the most noise in my heart or mind?
- What am I trying to control because I am afraid to place it in God’s hands?
- When have I experienced God’s presence during a difficult season?
- What might change if I truly believed God was with me right now?
You don’t need to answer perfectly. Write whatever comes to mind—or simply sit quietly with God.
Declaration
I do not have to solve everything today. God is with me, and I am safe in His presence. I choose to become still and remember that He is God.
Prayer
Father, my heart and mind have been carrying so much. Sometimes the noise within me makes it difficult to recognize Your presence. Help me become still. Quiet the thoughts that keep pulling me into fear. Loosen my grip on the things I cannot control. Remind me that You are near, even when I cannot feel You and even when I do not understand what You are doing.
I bring You my worries, my questions, my disappointments, and my unfinished plans. Meet me here, exactly as I am. Teach me to rest in Your presence and trust that I do not have to carry everything alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s Gentle Invitation
Set aside five quiet minutes today. Put your phone away, turn off the television, and step away from anything demanding your attention. Sit somewhere comfortable and take several slow breaths.
- As you breathe in, quietly say: “God, You are here.”
- As you breathe out, say: “I release this to You.”
You may name whatever “this” is: a fear, a relationship, a decision, a loss, or an unanswered prayer. Don’t use these five minutes to ask God for every answer. Simply practice being with Him.
Before You Go
Beginning again doesn’t always start with a bold decision. Sometimes it begins with a quiet moment in which we stop running, stop striving, and finally remember: God is here.
Tomorrow, we will look back at His faithfulness and allow ourselves to believe again.
